Aline Prather

May 26, 1936 — January 16, 2025

Funeral Service for Faye Aline Hughes Prather will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Brownfield, with Rev. Tommy Rosenblad officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Aline was born May 26, 1936 at the "Old Cooper Place" near Arp, TX to her parents H.V. "Doc" and Eula Mae Garner Hughes. She married Jimmy "Jim" Floyd Prather on October 30, 1959 in Lubbock, TX.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jim. She is survived by her sister Bobbie Jean Hughes Baldridge; daughter Teresa Lynn Simmons and her husband Ted; daughter Dana Lynn Prather; granddaughters Sarah Ashley Clark and Teddra Kinsey; great grandchildren Kaulin, Kalton, Jaxxen, and Kanyen Kinsey; and 4 great-great children.

Aline grew up on a farm, always outside with her father picking cotton and moving irrigation pipe, while her sister worked inside the house with their mother. She attended grammar school in east Texas, but graduated from Levelland Highschool where she was a cheerleader, participated in athletics, and took part in several extracurricular actives. Her love of sports continued into adulthood, playing for the Prather Sheet Metal Women's Volleyball team. The team won the TAAF State Volleyball tournament two consecutive years. She was also an avid golfer. So much so, her husband equipped her golf cart with a cab and heater so she could play during the winter months.

Aline and Jim moved from Lubbock to Brownfield in 1962, where they owned and operated Prather Sheet Metal Inc., for 36 years. Aline's professional career also included tenures with Incot, Inc., and Meredith-Jones, Inc.

Aline and Jim became members of First Baptist Church Brownfield on September 16th 1962. Aline was very active in the church; teaching Sunday school, GA classes, and Vacation Bible School. She tirelessly served in the church kitchen where she "ruled with an iron fist." She and Jim were also involved in numerous other community endeavors.

Aline may be best known for her continuous smile, amazing energy, love of God and family, and by a phrase traceable to her east Texas roots, calling all her friends and loved ones "Darlin'."
