Funeral Service for Alvin “Big Al” LeRoy Stiffler, 52, of Benson, AZ, will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Brownfield Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Seaton officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Brownfield Funeral Home.
Alvin “Big Al” LeRoy Stiffler was born in Leadville, CO, on June 4, 1972, to Thomas Jay and Florence Mae (Lary) Stiffler. LeRoy graduated from high school in 1990 in Glenrock, WY, and then moved to Brownfield, TX. He went on to attend Lubbock Christian College and South Plains College before joining the Marines in 1995. LeRoy served 4 years as a 1371 Combat Engineer and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, 2 Letters of Appreciation, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and a Certificate of Appreciation.
LeRoy would help anybody and had a generous heart. One of the many things that he enjoyed in life was collecting comic books. While living in Brownfield, LeRoy worked at the MTC Unit and also at Stripes and Allsups, where he was known as “Big Al.” He moved to North Carolina and then spent the last 10 years of his life in Arizona near his brother Chris.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his dad, Thomas Jay Stiffler, and his sister, Candy Marie Stiffler. He is survived by his mother, Flo Stiffler, of Brownfield; brother, Chris Stiffler (Sandra), of Benson, AZ; family members Allen Lary, Denise Bridges, and Bryon Bridges; and numerous friends and extended family.
