Ethel Audine Floyd Newsom, 103, died peacefully on December 19, 2018, in Highland Village, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 3, 1915, to Ethel (Weathers) and Lee Floyd in Floyd County, Texas. She spent most of her life in Brownfield, Texas. She graduated from Brownfield High School and attended Texas Tech College.
Audine was happily married to James Luther (J.L.) Newsom for 56 years until his death in 1991. They were cotton growers and owned and operated the Newsom Gin in Gomez, Texas. They enjoyed customers at the cotton gin, boating and fishing, serving at The First United Methodist Church, square dancing with the Terry Twirlers, games of "42", and vacations with their daughters. Audine was an excellent homemaker, seamstress, and cook. She taught Sunday School, led Girl Scouts, and assisted with school activities. As a grandmother, she leaves behind a legacy of love through hours of play, letters, phone calls, and visits. Her family was the supreme delight of her life.
Audine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son James Floyd Newsom, and brother Bernie Lee Floyd.
She is survived by daughters Donna Newsom Ridgway and her husband Richard and Barbara Newsom Paddack and her husband Michael, grandchildren Susan Ridgway Esposito (Raymond), Sharon Ridgway Mankin (Dwight), Laura Paddack Childs (Andrew), Jay Paddack (Angela), great-grandchildren Blake Mankin (Meagan), Emily Mankin Baxter (William), Austin Mankin (Kirby), Amy and Eric Esposito, Ryan and Claire Childs and Benjamin Paddack, and great-great-grandsons Rivers and Baker Mankin.
Services will be at the Brownfield Funeral Home, Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 11:00 am. The family will be available before the service at 10:30 am to greet friends and family.
