Memorial services for Bob G. Boswell, 83, of Brownfield will be held in the Brownfield First Baptist Chapel on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11am with Les Wilks officiating.
Bob was born on July 22, 1928 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Joseph Richard and Ettie Lynn Boswell. One of 9 brothers and sisters, he graduated in 1946 from Foster High School in Oklahoma City. Bob served as the class president during his senior year.
After graduation, Bob enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the 11th Airborne Division where he was stationed at Camp Crawford in Hokkaido, Japan. Bob’s division served during the US occupation of Japan after WW II. He earned his Parachutist’s Badge and jump wings. He was an excellent rifle and pistol marksman. When Bob was honorably discharged from the armed services, he was granted a World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for serving in Japan.
When Bob returned to the US, he enrolled in college for 2 years before he joined Cities Service Oil Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was assigned to the office in Snyder, and eventually made his way to Brownfield where he directed the Cities Service office. While in Brownfield, Bob represented Cities Services in horseshoe competition and won the West Texas-New Mexico playoff.
While at a dance at the Armory Guard on a Saturday night, Bob met Herbie Singletary, and declared to his friends that he would marry her. Bob and Herbie were married on August 30, 1955 and soon built a home in the country where they raised their family.
Bob left Cities Services to join Grady Goodpasture in business where he worked for 18 years. While at Goodpasture, he served as the National Fertilizer Solutions Association President from 1969-1970. In 1982, Bob ventured out on his own to begin Boswell Chemical, Inc. which was a very successful home based business for he and Herbie.
Bob, BG, or Bozzie (as he was known to friends) liked to spend his time gardening, fishing in his pond and with friends, and playing golf. He enjoyed telling tales with the guys at Larry’s Chemical and with the 2:00 coffee bunch. Bob was known as “Pops” to his seven grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years Herbie Boswell of Brownfield; daughter, Leta Holmes and husband, Ron of Abilene; 2 sons, Kirk Boswell and wife, Amber, of Abilene, Eric Boswell, and wife Kim, of the The Woodlands; 7 grandchildren, Linsey and Rachael Holmes, Blake, Brandon, Brett, Zach, and Jake Boswell; 2 sisters, Enda Hale of California, and Kay Sullins of Oklahoma.
Bob’s family would like to thank the wonderful people who came to see him during his short stay at home. We also want to thank the medical personnel who cared for Pops during his stay at Covenant Hospital and at Carillion Hospice. The care that was shown to him and to his family during this time was appreciated more than anyone will ever know.
