Memorial services for Bobby Don Lewis, 77, of Odessa and formerly of Brownfield will be 10am, June 8, 2013 at Terry County Memorial Cemetery with G.W. Douglas, Gaylen Douglas and Don Ritchey officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

The body of Bobby Don Lewis died a couple of weeks ago. His soul has gone to a better place and waits for Judgment Day.

He was born on a sandy land farm in Terry County, Texas to Bessie Blanch (Brewer) Lewis and Daniel Preston Lewis and was the last of ten children. His siblings were Alta Eugene Drake, Claudia Alice Weaver, Ola Rosemary Wicker, Walter Carl Lewis, Darrell Preston Lewis, Edna Earl Barnard, Weldon Wayne Lewis, Doris Laverne Hadaway and Joyce Fern Roe.

He attended primary and junior high school in the Union Community, but graduated in 1955 from Brownfield High School. He attended Bakersfield Junior College in CA, Levelland Junior College (instrumentation classes) and various classes at Odessa College.

Never one to shirk, he hoed cotton as a child during the summer; as a teen, he worked at Banner Ice House, Blevins Laundry and a summer construction gang. His Jr. year at BHS, he took DE and worked at Primm Drug; as a Senior, he worked for J.B. Knight Furniture, and worked as a roughneck in the oil field after graduation. After his marriage to the former Ruthnjane Griggs, he worked as a station attendant on California’s Hwy 99, Texas New Mexico Pipeline back in Texas, and the Brownfield Farmers Coop delivering butane.

On December 31, 1963, he moved his family to Odessa, Texas and worked for Ref Chem as a temporary maintenance man at the Rexall Polyethylene Plant. When Rexall expanded with a new Polypropylene process, he was hired as a permanent chemical operator until he retired after 35 years. While working at the same plant, his pay checks came from 7 or 8 different employers, ending with Huntsman.

His off time was spent family camping, coaching basketball at the Odessa Boys Club, Farm League and Little League baseball teams, league bowling and square dancing. The last portion of his life was spent battling Lymphoma Cancer and working out at Paradigm.

As a young man, he studied Masonic Principles. Recently, he was notified that he had received Lifetime status.

Most importantly, he was baptized in 1955, recently attending worship and fellowship with the Terrace hills Church of Christ in Odessa.

Bobby Don is survived by his wife "Jane"; a son, Robert A. Lewis; a daughter, Donna Melonakos and husband James; two grandchildren, Karsten and Audrey Melonakos; a sister, Joyce Roe; a sisters-in-law, Betty Lewis and Henrietta Lewis; over 90 nieces and nephews scattered over the continental USA, Hawaii and Thailand.
