Bruce Wayne Smith

Funeral Service for Bruce Wayne Smith will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Challis Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Matlock officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Bruce was born on September 16, 1948, to Manuel Bruce and Etta Maude Smith in Brownfield, TX. He passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 76.

Bruce grew up as childhood neighbors with his beloved wife, Adelya. Their romance blossomed, and they united in marriage on February 19, 1966. Together, they built a life of love and happiness. They were inseparable for 59 years and had a marriage that everyone aspired to emulate.

At the age of 17, Bruce answered his country’s call and enlisted in the Army. His service took him to Germany for two years before he returned to South Carolina for the remainder of his four-year term. Upon returning to Terry County, Texas, Bruce embraced his role as a devoted family man, pouring his heart and soul into caring for his loved ones.

A man of deep faith and conviction, Bruce was a God-fearing individual who found purpose in serving his church as a deacon. For over 55 years, he and Adelya were active members of Challis Baptist Church, where Bruce's kindness, generosity, and hard-working spirit left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege to know him.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Etta Smith; loving stepdad, Lester Robbins; and sister, Rita Austin. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Adelya Smith; daughter, Stacy Jakstas (Clint); son, Bruce James Smith; 5 sisters, Mary Naron, Becci Gooch, Karen Thrasher, Sheila Fleetwood, and Jayne Neill; 2 brothers, Hershel Smith and Tim Barron; 6 grandchildren, Brittni Thompson (Travis), Savanna Paiva (Josh), Skylar Jakstas (Caydence), Keatyn Smith, Casen Lucas, and Kamryn Lucas; 4 great-grandchildren, Maisyn, Hadlee, Tripp, and Scottland.
