Burial will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Brownfield Funeral Home.
Don was born in Bakersfield, CA, on November 29, 1939, to Kenneth Earl and Ila Beatrice (Solsbery) Godwin. He passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 85.
A graduate of Brownfield High School, Class of 1958, Don's life was marked by love, service, and unwavering faith. He was an employee and ultimately a plant manager of Ozark-Mahoning for over 35 years.
In high school, Don began his enduring love story with Clarice Cornett. The two were inseparable, marrying in 1960 and building a life based on loving each other, loving God and serving others. Even their vacations were viewed as opportunities to teach people about Jesus wherever and however they could. Their partnership flourished over the years, culminating in a joyful celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary in February 2010, just months before Clarice passed away in August of that year. Their legacy of love and service continues to inspire their family to follow in their footsteps.
Don was deeply committed to his faith, dedicating much of his life to serving Jesus and sharing His message. A steadfast and loyal man, Don was known for his gift of wisdom and encouragement, uplifting those around him. He was a dedicated member of the Brownfield Church of Christ where he served as an elder for about 40 years until relocating to McKinney in 2022. His passion for service and sharing the Gospel also led him on numerous mission trips across Africa and North & Central America. He also spent many years teaching in the prison ministry.
Don and Clarice cherished time with their grandchildren. They hosted an annual "Cousins Camp" each summer enjoying trips into Lubbock, playing games, going to local parks, and fishing. Papa and Grannie (as they were called) visited the kids often, creating lasting memories and deepening family bonds.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Clarice; and 2 sisters, Loretta Whitaker and Donna Mae Whitaker. He is survived by his son Clinton Godwin and wife, Celia of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter, Donice Jordan and husband, John, of McKinney; grandchildren, Blake Godwin and wife, Amy, Trevor Godwin, Amanda Stocki and husband, Compton, Casey Jordan and wife, Tiffani, Stephanie Tello and husband, Misa; and one great-grandchild on the way.
