Memorial Services for Frank Gorton, 83, of Brownfield will be at 10:00 am, Friday, March 12, 2010 at Brownfield First United Methodist Church with Don McWhorter and Rev. Ruby Moultrie officiating.
Frank went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Brownfield. He was born April 27, 1926 in Alameda, California to Ralph and Ursa Gorton. He moved with his family to Brownfield in 1934. He graduated from Brownfield High School. He started to work for First National Bank in 1948 as a VE student and continued there as a Senior Vice President and cashier, retiring in 1991. He served his community in various capacities including a longtime member of Brownfield Optimist Club and Brownfield Jaycees. Frank was named "Outstanding Optimist" several years during his service to the club. Frank was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brownfield. He later joined the First United Methodist Church upon the closing of the Presbyterian church. He considered his coworkers at First National Bank his extended family. Every newborn baby received a pink or blue blanket, and every marriage received a lovely gift. Frank was known for his generosity and caring spirit. After his retirement he devoted his life to helping at-risk youth who promptly became his "adopted" family.
Frank is survived by his nephew and caregiver Lindley Gorton of Brownfield and many many loving friends and bank family members. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ursa Dorthea Gorton in 1968 and his father, Ralph Prindle Gorton in 1940 from Malaria. His father was a participant in the Mexican Revolution riding with Pancho Villa. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Gorton; a sister-in-law Irene Rachel Gorton and niece Florence Patricia Gorton.
