Memorial services for Freddie Glenn Cawthon will be held at 2 pm Saturday, January 6, 2024, at United Family Fellowship, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie and Rev. Cameron Kirkland officiating. A family gathering will directly follow the memorial service in Webber Hall of United Family Fellowship. 

Fred passed away on January 3, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on February 19, 1941, in Childress, Fred led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and a profound dedication to education.

Fred's passion for learning and teaching was evident from an early age. After graduating from Childress High School, he pursued higher education and earned a bachelor's degree from West Texas State University. He furthered his academic achievements by obtaining a master's degree in school administration from Texas Tech University.

For an astounding 39 years, Fred devoted his career to the betterment of students as a teacher and coach at Brownfield Independent School District. His unwavering commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, as he eventually became the Principal. Fred positively impacted the lives of countless students, instilling in them a love for learning and a determination to succeed.

In addition to his distinguished career, Fred was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for an impressive 57 years. He selflessly served as a Worshipful Master with the Masonic Lodge on two occasions and was actively involved in various community and church organizations. Fred's leadership was recognized and admired by many, evident in his roles within the Texas Elementary Principal and Supervisors Association, Texas Principals Association, and as a Brownfield School Board member.

Fred's legacy of service extended beyond the realms of education and community organizations. He generously shared his time and expertise as a dedicated Boy Scouts of America Troop leader, earning the highest honor bestowed upon him, the Wood Badge and Arrow of Light Award.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Nolan Bernard and Willie Mae Cawthon; three brothers, Bernard “Nort” Cawthon, Vernon Cawthon, Dan Cawthon, and in-laws, Varner and Francis Ann Stevens.

Fred is survived by his wife of 64 years, Leonora “Nonie” Cawthon of Brownfield; three children, Steve Cawthon and wife, Lana, of Lubbock, Kristi Cawthon Moore and husband, Lance, of Carlsbad, NM, Shay Cawthon and wife, Samantha, of Amarillo; nine granddaughters, Madison D’Ann Cawthon Ballard and husband, Austin, of Ft. Collins, CO, Logan Brooke Cawthon Lamberson and husband, Holt, of San Antonio, Laiken Nicole Cawthon Casillas and husband, Trey, of Lubbock, Jackeline Rose Inman of Amarillo, Sierra Nicole Inman Hamous-Lusk and husband, Sameul, of Amarillo, Noah Allen Inman of Amarillo, Liv Grace Cawthon of Amarillo, Lia Nora Cawthon of Amarillo, Lexi Kayte Moore of Carlsbad, NM; and three great-granddaughters, Grace, Mila, and Sadie.
