Graveside services for Gladys Pearl Swain, age 92, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 11, 2020, at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Gladys was born to W.G. and Rowena (Rutherford) Swain on May 12, 1928, at the family’s home near Meadow, Texas. She was the third child of five born to the couple. She attended elementary school at Gomez and graduated from Brownfield High School in 1946. Gladys worked in retail sales in Brownfield for 43 years at Cobb’s, Collins Department Store, and Bentley’s.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, whom she cared for until their passing, three sisters, Estelle Clark, Billie Brian, and Wanda White, and her brother, Graham Swain. She is survived by several nieces and nephews: Larry Brian of San Antonio, Bretza Mooty (Bob) of Lubbock, Judy Stoy (Tommy) of Stratford, Faynel Davis (Richard) of Slaton, Rhnea Bergren (Roger) of Amarillo, D’Ann Swain Boen (Jimmy) of Panhandle, and Mike Swain (Darla) of Brownfield.
Gladys accepted Jesus as her Savior at age eleven and was baptized in Ross Black’s stock tank near Gomez. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brownfield. Gladys dearly loved her family and enjoyed hosting family meals. She enjoyed playing bridge, dominoes, and board games with her many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church building fund or Gideons International. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Cottage Village, as well as, Kim Franke, PA, Dr. Shane Hord, and Interim Hospice Care for their kind and compassionate care. You have truly been a blessing to us at a difficult time.
