Henry was born to Asa Zenas Low and Mary Lou Garrett Low on October 21, 1926, in Jennings, Louisiana. He graduated from Jennings High School in 1943. He attended Louisiana State University, graduating in August 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. On December 1, 1949, Henry was hired as a roustabout with Stanolind Oil & Gas (later became Amoco Production Company) at the Slaughter Gas Plant in Sundown, Texas.

His career was interrupted in October of 1950 with a 2-year tour of duty in the US Army during the Korean conflict. In 1953, he was promoted to Junior Engineer at the Levelland Gas Plant and subsequently transferred to the production department in Brownfield in 1954. In 1960, he accepted a supervisory position. Henry retired as a District Drilling Superintendent from Amoco Production on July 1, 1986, in Hobbs, NM. After this, he worked 5 years as a production foreman for Maynard Oil Company. He then became deeply involved with genealogy research, traveling to several parts of the US and meeting many new relatives.

Henry married Charlotte Louise Smith on January 31, 1954 in Sundown, Texas. They were blessed with 3 children: Julie Low Combes (Jim) of Brownfield, Henry Chip Low, Jr (Tafta) of Hobbs, NM, and Leslie Low (Jennifer) of Flower Mound, TX. He was also blessed with 3 grandchildren whom he dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Charlotte, his sisters Wanda Ferguson and Clara Alice Welch, brother Walter Low, and grandson Michael Henry Low. He is survived by his children, his sisters Dorothy Grimsley and Mary Lou Hughes, grandson Scott Combes, and granddaughter Taylor Low Bredehoeft.
