Graveside services for Ida Imogene Smith, 89, of Albuquerque, NM will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2014, at 10am at the Tahoka Cemetery with Rev. Chris Seaton officiating.
God sent a blanket of snow this New Year‘s to take Imogene Smith home to heaven. Imogene was born in Stephenville, TX on April 30, 1925. She was married to A.L. Smith and had three children. They relocated to Albuquerque in the 50’s.
Imogene and A.L. were entrepreneurs that ran many businesses including; Smiths Fruit Stand, Smith’s Christmas Tree Lot, and Duke City Raceway. Imogene loved being involved in racing and was a powder puff champion in her 1955 Chevrolet racecar number 99. She spent many years quilting and was famous for her carrot cakes. Imogene was always quite the prankster as well as having a great sense of humor. Her smile will be engraved in everyone’s hearts forever.
Imogene was the matriarch of her family which included: Her eldest daughter Shirley, husband John Gallamore and their children Charles and wife Tina, Susan and husband Jeff, and Tammy. Her son Kenneth and Pat Smith (both deceased) and their children Donna and husband Duane, Kenny, Brenda and husband Joe, Barbara and husband Sonny, Patsy, and Angie and husband Billy. Her youngest daughter Darlene, husband Arthur Gatewood (deceased) and their children Keith and wife Ann, Debbie and husband John, and Pamela and husband Jose. She also had many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
