J. E. Eakin, Jr.

May 25, 1926 — August 16, 2007

John Edwin "J.E." Eakin, Jr. of Brownfield went to be with the Lord on Thursday August 16, 2007 at his home. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Brownfield Church of Christ. Internment will be at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.

J. E. was born on May 25, 1926 to John Enoch Eakin, Sr. and Floy Beeson Eakin in Terry County. He attended schools in Lahey and Brownfield, graduating in 1943. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Geology from Texas Tech in 1951. He served his country in W.W.II in the Navy as Radarman 2nd class aboard the USS Ticonderoga and the USS Bardstown Victory. J.E. married Patsy Ross Black August 28, 1950. He worked for Sun Oil Company for a couple years. He then Farmed in Terry and Yoakum Counties. He was active in the Brownfield Church of Christ serving as a deacon and an Elder. He was the coordinator of World Bible School there and traveled to Africa six times to do follow-up work.

J. E. is survived by his wife, Patsy Eakin of Brownfield; one son, Ron Eakin and his wife Randi of Flower Mound, TX; two daughters, Marci and her husband Gary Ayers of Fort Worth; and Missy and her fiancé Ricky Robertson of Brownfield. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Lauri Perez, Trent and Devin White, Eric and Jacob Eakin, and Tiffany Henderson and Michelle Robertson, and five great- grandchildren: Mikyla, Lexi, Maddie, Aric, and Kali;one sister, Vivian Ruth O'Neal of El Paso.
