Graveside Services for Jackie Dale Matlock, 93, of Brownfield will be held at 10 am on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.
Jackie Dale Matlock was born on September 5, 1930 in Lamesa, TX to S.M. and Ida C. (Hodges) Matlock. He was 17 years old when his daddy died and he took over the family farm and care of his mother and younger brother, Doyle. Jack attended Lamesa High School and after graduating, he began driving a school bus. A cute, brown eyed girl stepped onto his bus one day and he fell in love. He married Eva Mae Jones on November 21, 1950 and they were married 72 years.
Jack knew he was about to be drafted into the Army so he made the decision to join the U.S. Airforce instead. He served from 1950-1954 as a jet aircraft mechanic and continued in that capacity for 11 years in the Civil Service at Webb Airforce Base in Big Spring, TX.
In 1968 he surrendered to the call of God to preach the gospel of grace and pastored in Colorado and Texas for 30 years. He shared Jesus always, even the recent months in the nursing home.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, four sisters, a great grandson, Malaki Thomas and son-in-law, Mark Bush.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, Gail Northcutt of Artesia NM, Darlene Thomas and husband Alceed of Broken Arrow, OK, Belinda Bush of Lamesa, TX and son, Dale Matlock and wife Cheryll of Brownfield, Tx, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a host of dear family and friends.
