Jacqueline "Jackie" Akers

Funeral Service for Jacqueline Holt Akers, 100, of Brownfield, will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Viewing will be from 10 am to 8 pm on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Known to so many as "Mom" or "Gran", Jacqueline Holt Akers lived her 100 years with a spirit and flare that didn't go unnoticed. And she wanted you to know she had a "damn good time!" She passed at home with family on January 31, 2024.

Born in Henrietta, Oklahoma, Jackie moved to West Texas with her parents, Jack Holt and Hazel Graves Holt. Brownfield held a special place for the family as they created a generational home within the community. Jackie had beautiful memories of growing up and family visits to the high desert throughout the decades. Well traveled, having spent time living in Africa and the Dominican Republic, Jackie and MJ settled back in Brownfield, where they had attended school together.

Always an advocate for animals and the underserved, Jackie took many roles in assisting, counseling, and teaching others. Her generous heart and Texas Tech education were the foundation for a life spent in service to others through volunteer and professional organizations.

Rarely was Jackie seen without one of her beloved dogs or done up in one of her famously brightly matched outfits. In life, she believed there was no such thing as being overdressed. From her nails to her hat to her shoes, she always looked like she had somewhere more important to be. And what's a better accessory than a loving dog? Or the smile she always had ready?

She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Jerome Akers. And will be laid to rest next to him in their private cemetery in Terry County.

Jackie leaves two daughters, Bobbie Horn and Jackie Sue Dooley, as well as their children, Carey Dooley (Tiffany), Christopher Dooley (Brandi), Shana Mattick (Christopher), Crissie Franco (Juan), and Aaron Swan.

Bonus grandchildren, Deborah Bertrand, Jimmie Watson Jr., Kenny Watson, Colleen Watson, Sharon Schon, Jessica Watson, Linda Watson, Angela Runyon, Charlie Watson, and Ardella Hill.

Great-grandchildren, Allison Dooley, Ryan Dooley, Avery Dooley, Parker Dooley, Peyton Dooley, Paxton Dooley, Gwynyth Addams, Makayla Escobar, Emily Perez, Baylor Franco, Jeremy Franco and Ash Swan.

Great-great-grandchildren: Kalliope and Amadeus.

In lieu of flowers, Jackie would prefer donations to Brownfield Animal Services, a cause close to her heart (621 American Legion Parkway, Brownfield, TX 79316, 806 637-2511), or volunteer in your community with Jackie's spirit in your heart.
