Funeral services for Irene Jenelle Cottrell Burns will be held at 2pm Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Burial will follow at the Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
There will be a family visitation Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm at Brownfield Funeral Home.
Jenelle was born on October 28, 1936 to Harvey and Lizzie Cottrell outside of Wellman. When she was about two years old her father passed away. Her mother remarried to Dalton Warren who was a father to Jenelle. Jenelle married Glen R. Burns on February 7, 1955 in Lovington, NM. Jenelle retired from GTE where she was a customer service representative and worked for a time as a union representative. She has been a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1968. She also worked as woman’s auxiliary at the Brownfield Hospital. Jenelle was a very loving person, she loved deeply and was deeply loved by all who knew her. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel very welcome in her home. The loves of her life were her husband, children, grandchildren and her 2 great grandchildren. Jenelle is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Cottrell and Dalton and Lizzie Warren, husband, Glen R. Burns, son, Eddie Glenn Burns, three brothers and a sister.
Jenelle is survived by her daughter, Jan Decker of Plainview; son, Shawn Burns and wife, Kathy, of Brownfield; three grandchildren, Tyler Decker and wife, Kristin, of Amarillo, Brooke Burson and husband, Donny, of Silverton, Michelle Nolte and husband, Kenny, of Lubbock; four great grandchildren, Camryn Jenelle and Colton Rowe Decker of Amarillo and Skylar and Mason Nolte of Lubbock; brother, Jack Warren of Long Beach, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
