Jerry Dick Jones

A Memorial Service for Jerry Dick Jones, 66, of Brownfield will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Brownfield Church of Christ with Bo Shero officiating. Family visitation will be Friday, October 30, from 5-7 pm at Brownfield Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.brownfieldfuneralhome.com.

Jerry was born on March 13, 1949 to R.D. and Delma Jean Jones in Brownfield. An alumnus of Brownfield High School, Jerry went on to earn his undergraduate degree at Abilene Christian University and his Masters of Education from Sul Ross State University. He then climbed the ranks from teacher to Principal of BHS and eventually served 9 years as Superintendent of BISD. All in all, Jerry served school children, in Brownfield and elsewhere, for 34 years.

Jerry married the love of his life, Karen Kainer, in Stamford on January 10, 1970 and they shared 45 wonderful years. He was a Godly example, selfless servant, and consistent supporter to his children. Jerry loved kids, especially his grandkids, whom he called the “light of his life.”

Jerry was very active in the community. He was a member of Terry County Young Farmers and on the Board of the Terry County Co-op Gin. He was also very active in his church and served as an elder. His passion for serving others overflowed into every aspect of his life and he made it a goal to make others happy. Nicknamed “Teddy Bear,”
Jerry was a beloved member of the Brownfield community and had many friends that will miss him dearly.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Delma Jean Jones. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen, and by 2 children, Craig Jones and his wife Lisa of Borger and Lauri Jones Schule and her husband Jarrette of San Antonio; 4 grandchildren, Cooper and Carson Jones, Cade and Anderson Schule; father, R.D. Jones; 2 brothers, Gary Jones and his wife Jackie, and Greg Jones and his wife Maria; a sister, Jean Ann Banta.
