John Lynch Johnson

Services for retired Lt. Col. John Lynch Johnson will be held at 10am at Meadow Cemetery on Saturday, July 28, 2012 with Denny Henderson officiating under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 5:30 to 7pm.

Lynch passed away on July 26, 2012 in Lubbock, TX. He was born on October 23, 1915 to John and Carra Johnson in Notasulgo, AL. He attended Auburn College for two years before enlisting in the United States Air Force during World War II. Lynch married Winnolee Sharp on July 20, 1944 and recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. He dedicated his life to the United States Air Force. Lynch received many decorations and awards during his military career; Legion of Merit, Air Force Commendation Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award and the Armed Forces Reserve medal. He also served as Terry County Commissioner. After retirement, he and Winnolee spent many years traveling in their RV and later lived in Rockport, TX for 20 years. In 2003 they moved to Carillion in Lubbock. He loved fishing, traveling and was a history buff. Lynch never met a stranger and loved his family especially his wife. He always gave great advice and was a true southern gentleman.

Lynch is survived by his wife, Winnolee Johnson; a sister, Eloise Meigs, 10 nephews, 3 nieces and a many great nieces and nephews.

Lynch is preceded in death by his parents, John and Carra Johnson; 3 brothers, John Thomas Johnson, Harold Johnson and D.A. Johnson and a sister, Lilly Mae Howell.
