Services for Juanita Sewell, 89, formerly of Brownfield will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church with Juanita’s nephew, the Rev. Bob Dean of Dallas, officiating.
Juanita was born on February 5, 1925 in Lone Wolf, OK to James and Lillie Dean. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked for the Federal offices of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service for over 30 years in Brownfield, Texas. Juanita married J.B. Sewell on January 19, 1945 in Prague, OK. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1995.
Juanita is survived by her son, Douglas Sewell and wife Sue of Beaver Creek, Colorado; 3 grandchildren, Jef Sewell and wife Laura, Justin Sewell and wife Kristen, and Kellsey Sewell Stokes and husband Macon, all of Austin; a sister, Sara Grigg and husband Jess of Lubbock, 9 nieces and nephews, and 10 great grandchildren.
Juanita married J B Sewell after he returned from serving in the Pacific as a Navy serviceman in World War II. They lived in Oklahoma for the first few years of their married lives before moving to Brownfield, Texas in 1950. She was a long time member of the Union Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School classes for many years. Juanita possessed a servant’s heart and made time for many who were in need throughout her life. Her smiling face and sense of humor will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.
