Martha Josephine Miller left her earthly family to join the Lord and her heavenly family on December 28, 2022. She was born in Roaring Springs, Texas to Frank Benion Sudduth and Mattie Morine McCravey Sudduth on July 2, 1928. A memorial service for Martha Josephine Sudduth Miller will be held at 10am Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Cargile officiating.
Her father's work moved the Sudduth family several places in Texas and New Mexico. Martha graduated from Tatum High School in 1947 and moved back to Texas. She worked at the Union Store before becoming a LVN nurse in the Treadway-Daniel Hospital in Brownfield, Texas for two years.
Martha and Lee Miller were married on April 14, 1950 in the Foster Church parsonage. Together, Martha and Lee raised two sons and one daughter on the farm in the Union Community. Like all farmers' wives, Martha kept the house and worked beside her husband on the farm. As the children grew older, Martha began to get involved in the community.
She was always seen at the Union School academic and athletic events as well as volunteering as the church secretary for 30 years and delivering Meals on Wheels in Brownfield. Martha also helped with taking census and worked as an election worker at the poll on Election Day for many years.
When the three children moved out, Martha worked at Kleins and Anthony Department Stores in Brownfield for several years until Lee decided to hit the road to see the entire United States and visit family and friends.
Martha is survived by her three children from Brownfield, Texas: Gordon Miller and wife, Sharon; Gary Miller and wife, Debbi; and Kathy Miller Thomas and husband, Cecil: four grandchildren; Angie, Tracy, Doug, and Te'Auna: four great-grandchildren; Zoey, Ethan, Maverick, and A'Lexxus. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Cottage Village Staff and nurses, the Hospice of South Plains nurses and staff, Dr. Pirtle, and David Hunsaker for taking care of our mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Immanuel Baptist Church, PO Box 265 in Brownfield, Texas 79316.
