Interment for Maxie Void McElroy will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Yoakum County Cemetery in Plains, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Plains, with Rev. Patrick Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Brownfield Funeral Home.
Maxie was born on January 8, 1938, to William and Gussie McElroy in Big Spring, TX. He passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 86. Maxie had a fulfilling career with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), where he dedicated more than 37 years of hard work and commitment.
Maxie married Nora Adell Quinney in 1961, and they enjoyed 63 beautiful years together. Throughout his life, Maxie found joy in simple pleasures. His passion for yard work was evident to everyone who knew him, as he meticulously tended to it, ensuring it was always in pristine condition. Additionally, Maxie found solace in flying miniature radio-controlled airplanes at the park, a hobby that brought him a sense of freedom and joy.
Maxie was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gussie McElroy; son, Lynn McElroy; grandson, Brant McElroy; and siblings, Sue Cabe and Donald McElroy.
Maxie is survived by his wife, Nora Adell McElroy of Brownfield; children, Tommy McElroy and wife Cindy of Oklahoma, James McElroy and wife Sheila of Pampa, Rena O'Brien and husband Ed of Rowlett; grandchildren, Meagan McGee and husband Zach, Jaret McElroy and fiancé Selene, Reece McElroy and wife Megan, Lindsey Botello, Colby McElroy and wife Tearyn, Jason McElroy and wife Anastasia, Seth McElroy and wife Alyssa, Katiana McElroy, Hope McElroy, Brittany Bates and husband Lundy, Austin O'Brien, and Tanner Patterson and wife Taylor; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
As family and friends mourn the loss of Maxie, they remember him for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to a favorite charity.
