Otha Edna (Babe) Hamm was born in Denison, TX, and died peacefully in her home, on April 18, 2015, surrounded by her loving family in Brownfield, TX. Babe lived an amazing life full of fun, friends, and family. She taught all those around her to love God and each other unconditionally and faithfully and to work hard. Babe and L.D. raised their children and grandchildren to love the land, stand by each other, and love life as they loved each other, whole heartily. They taught us all to appreciate our heritage, the fun of a great dance, and the beauty of a close-knit family stitched together with so much love and strength that can only come from a three corded strand.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. P.L. Jobe, eight faithful brothers, five sweet sisters, and her devoted husband of 48 years, L.D. Hamm Jr., who she lost in 1992.
She is survived by their three beautiful children: Betty Ussery and husband, Bubba of Mullin, TX; Janie Searsy and husband, Don, of Brownfield, TX; Ace Hamm and Dana, of Brownfield, TX. They had seven adoring grandchildren: Eric Phillips and wife, Cappi, of Amarillo, TX.; Shelby Truby and husband, Toby, of Conifer, CO; Danya Salazar and husband, Steve, of Evergreen, CO; Tray Field and wife, Joy, of Bronco, TX; Traysa Zimmerman and husband, Zac, of Lovington, NM; Tanner Hamm and wife, Jerrah, of Midland, TX; Breck Hamm of Dallas, TX and fourteen precious great-grandchildren, all of whom loved their “Nannie” very much! Babe’s extended family included many wonderful friends and family and four loving caretakers; Frances Perez, Nancy Luera, Jo Ann Deleon, and Leti Ruiz. She will be missed dearly but is now singing and dancing forever with Jesus! We love you mostest!
The family would love for all of her friends and family to come help celebrate this amazing woman and her very full life! Services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Brownfield with Rev. Ruby Moultrie officiating. Pallbearers will be: Eric Phillips, Tray Field, Tanner Hamm, Breck Hamm, Timmy Hamm, and Gary Jobe. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Hamm and Doug Hlavaty.
