Phyllis Veta Tunnell

Services for Phyllis Veta Tunnell, 96, of Brownfield will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Brownfield Church of Christ with Bob Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at 3pm at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Monday, October 20, 2014 at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Phyllis was born on February 25, 1918 to Thomas and Maude Andrews in Franklin, Arkansas. The family moved to Dexter, NM in the early 1920’s then later to Hagerman. She attended school at Spring Mound Valley, Dexter and Hagerman, where she graduated from high school and attended Eastern New Mexico Junior College and New Mexico Highland University. Phyllis married Hal Reed Tunnell on June, 1, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1990. She taught school in Portales and Gallup, NM and in O’Donnell and Brownfield. She was a member of Brownfield Church of Christ and taught Bible classes, Vacation Bible School and World Bible School for many years. She also belonged to Texas Retired Teachers Association, Lubbock Christian University Association and Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was very active in the Community.

Phyllis is survived by her two daughters Nancy Johnson of Lubbock and Susan Rovegno of Tomball; a sister, Willine Adams of Ft. Worth; a sister -in-law, Connie Andrews of Hagerman, NM;a step-grandson, Charles Rovegno and wife Robin of Chandler, AZ and 2 great grandchildren, Anthony and Andrea Rovegno of Chandler, AZ.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Hal Tunnell; parents, Thomas and Maude Andrews and 3 brothers, Lowell Andrews, Lindell Andrews and Archie Andrews.
