Services for Eutis Ray Jones, 92, of Brownfield will be at 10am, Monday, March 7, 2011 at Plains First United Methodist Church in Plains Texas with Rev. Hugh Hays officiating. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Ray passed away at his home in Brownfield on Thursday, March 3, 2011. He was born January 26, 1919 in Stamford, Texas to Charley Sion and Willie Watters Jones. He attended Brownfield Schools. He married the former Dorothy Snodgrass on December 22, 1940 in Brownfield. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving on the USS Mullany in 1945. He and his wife farmed in the Tokio community until 1989. They then moved to Brownfield. Ray worked as an oilfield pumper from 1954-1989. Ray and Dorothy helped to host the Sesquicentennial Celebration at the Terry County amphitheater in Brownfield in 1986. He was a member of the Tokio Baptist Church. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Wanda Mehl; a son, Jerry Ray Jones, who died in 2008.
Ray is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy of Brownfield; a son, Malcolm Gregg Jones and wife Corba of Ozona; 4 grandchildren, Shelle Montgomery, Jeff Jones, Korte Jones and Keitha Jones; and 3 great grandchildren, Dillon Montgomery, Braden Montgomery and Paisley Jones; a brother, Travis Jones of Lubbock; 4 sisters, Linda Carmack of Eunice, NM., Marilyn McCormick of Levelland, Barbara Bowman of Wichita Falls and Elaine Lewis of Hamlin; a daughter-in-law, Paulette Jones of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews.
