Graveside services for Sammy Dale Key, 72, of Brownfield will be at
2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Terry County Memorial Cemetery
in Brownfield, with his grandson, Rocky Wilson officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Sammy went walking in the Heavenly Garden Sunday, May 18, 2008 at his home in Brownfield. His legs were not strong enough here in this world. He was born September 16, 1935 in Clovis, NM. to William Hosey and Vera Blythe Key. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1954. He then attended Texas Tech University for 4 years, majoring in geology. He married Doreatha May, August 26, 1958 in Brownfield. Sammy started working at the age of 14. He worked at Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Brownfield. He farmed 14 years in the Gomez Community and worked at Newsom Gin in the fall. He managed Shook Tire Co, Key Tire Co and worked for Jack Hamilton Tire Co for 25 years, retiring in 2005. "Grandad" as he was called touched everyones lives in a very special way and will always be in our hearts. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gene Blake and one sister, Tress Key.
Pallbearers will be Duane Moss, Elvis Hook, Vernon Click, Tom Hook, Chuck Nave, Beryl Robertson and Robert Salmon.
Sammy is survived by his wife Doreatha of Brownfield; a daughter, Robbie Byrd and husband Ross of Perrin; 2 sons, Russell Key and Richard Key and wife Sherry, all of Brownfield; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a sister, "Jerry" Edwards of Midland; extended brothers and sisters, Glenna Cason and her husband Kenneth of Shallowater, Larry Blake and his wife Linda of Arlington and Deanie Thomas and her husband Tommy of Lubbock; a sister-in-law, Doreen Kluck and husband Dennis of Deer Lodge, MT.
The family would like to thank Dr. McClanahan and staff and the special people with VistaCare Hospice of Lubbock, Jill, Lola and Xochetl.
