Funeral Service for Sharon Kay Culbert will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Brownfield Funeral Home with Chaplain Mike Horton officiating. Burial will follow in Terry County Memorial Cemetery.
Sharon left her earthly home on Saturday, May 18, 2024. She was doing what she loved to do- a word puzzle book. Sharon was a social butterfly and never met a stranger. She loved her country music, even singing a George Strait song last week at a talent show- Amarillo By Morning. Growing up, she loved attending Friday night country music band and was always in the front row.
Sharon's zest for life was evident in her active participation in the Special Olympics, where she excelled in bocce ball. Her enthusiasm extended to her love for the Texas Rangers baseball team. She was a dedicated fan, attending numerous games and proudly displaying her collection of signed photos. Her joy knew no bounds when the team clinched the World Series victory last year.
Sharon's impact extended beyond her personal interests. She served as the social editor for the ASSL newsletter, ensuring the community was always well-informed. Her love for gardening was evident in the vibrant flowers and thriving plants she nurtured. She even managed to grow cantaloupes in a large flower pot, a testament to her determination and green thumb. This year, she dedicated her time to a greenhouse, earning several awards for her unwavering commitment and assistance. Recently, Sharon could always be seen chewing Big Red or Dentyne gum.
She was always there to help new members who came to the campus. Sharon adored her family and sent cards to Jimmie and others every month. She never forgot a birthday and would sometimes remind us when it was our birthday. There is so much more to say about Sharon - "heart of gold, iron-clad memory, and talented in so many ways." God has gained a new "social butterfly," and she will always be in our hearts. We believe she is watching the Rangers this year.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Myrle Culbert, 11 plus aunts and uncles, and several very special friends.
She is survived by her brother, Jimmie and wife Teresa Culbert; nephew, Michael and Shar Culbert; great-niece, Ashley Culbert; great-niece, Kristina Culbert; great-great-nephew, Derek Culbert; nephew, David and Nikki Culbert; great-nephew, Riley Culbert; great-niece, Kolbi Culbert; and several cousins.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who shared a part of Sharon's life, especially those at the Abilene State Supported Living Center. Your love and care for Sharon will always be remembered.
