Stanley Meryl McNiel

Funeral Service for Stanley McNiel, 72, of Round Rock, will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Brownfield Funeral Home with Chaplain Chris McNiel officiating. Interment will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery.

Stanley Meryl McNiel was born on June 11, 1952, in Brownfield, Texas, and passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas. He was born into a farm family in western Texas. He attended Union High School and was active in Union Baptist Church. He left Brownfield to attend Ambassador College and became a pastor for the Worldwide Church of God after graduation.

He pastored churches in California, Minnesota, Kansas, and North Carolina before retiring back in Texas. He completed a master's degree in family therapy to help him with his ministry. Later in life, he worked as a hospital chaplain at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He dedicated much of his life to his faith, sharing his love for God and his community.

Stan was a family man, and enjoyed spending time with his son David McNiel and daughter Melinda Lopez, son-in-law Gabriel Lopez, and three grandchildren, Maya, Gabrielle, and Eli. He also left behind his siblings: Lou Close, Sherry Baskin, Cathy Norrod, Jerry McNiel, and Chris McNiel.

Stan found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including spending time with friends and family, engaging in Bible study, reading, and going on long walks. He walked with many people going through hard times, and was a defender of the downtrodden. He saw the best in people. He was generous with all he had. He was quick with a smile and a kind word to strangers. He always remained grounded in his love for the Gospel, and shared it regularly with those around him.

Among his most memorable moments were the births of his children and grandchildren, which brought him great pride and joy. Stan's unwavering commitment to his family and faith will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, wisdom, and love will continue to inspire those left behind.

Stan was preceded in death by: brother Terry McNiel, father R.R. (Pete) McNiel, and mother Joy McNiel.
