Services for Truett Flache, 90, of Brownfield will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday in the First Christian Church of Brownfield with Rev. Ken Reeder and Bob Reynolds officiating. His nephews and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Truett died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Brownfield Regional Medical Center.
Truett Wilson Flache was born January 28, 1918 in Vincent (Howard County), Texas. The youngest of six children, he was the son of Ameil “Ame” Flache and Mary Elizabeth (Mitchell) Flache. He moved to Brownfield with his family in August 1918 and graduated from Brownfield High School in 1935. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University in 1939, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering and a commission in the US Army Reserve.
Truett married Queenelle Sawyer on November 8, 1941 in Brownfield. She preceded him in death October 18, 1990.
Truett served with the 256th Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theater of Operations in 1944 and 45. He began farming in Terry County in 1949 and retired in 1993. He retired from the US Army Reserve as a Colonel in 1978. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Brownfield Rotary Club. He served on the Brownfield School Board, City Council, and was President of the Terry County Cemetery Association for several years. In 1977 he was named Dryland Farmer and in 1979 Outstanding Citizen of Terry County.
Truett married Betty Savage Mills on January 29, 1994; she preceded him in death December 9, 2007.
Truett is survived by two children: a daughter, Irene Elaine Shiver of Dallas and a son, Arthur Ame Flache of Brownfield. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great granddaughter; Scott Shiver and Frederick Shiver of Brownfield, Erin Shiver of Dallas, Sawyer Flache of San Marcos, and Kailynn Riley Flache of San Marcos.
