Funeral Service for Virgil Ray Gilliam will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Meadow First Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Heath and Rev. Truman Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 14, 2024, Brownfield Funeral Home.
Virgil Ray Gilliam was born on March 16, 1943, in Terry County, TX, to J.V. & Alleece Gilliam. He passed away on July 10, 2024, at the age of 81.
Virgil was a dedicated farmer who found joy in working the land and providing for his family. On June 16, 1961, he married the love of his life, Lillie Pearl Vest, who preceded him in death in 2013.
Aside from his work on the farm, Virgil was an active member of the Meadow community. He proudly served as a board member of the Meadow Museum and was a valued member of the Masonic Lodge in Brownfield, TX. Virgil's passion for square dancing brought joy to his life, creating cherished moments and lasting relationships.
Virgil is preceded in death by his wife Lillie Pearl Gilliam; parents, J.V. and Alleece Gilliam and siblings, Bobby Gilliam, Lois Bevers, and Lou Crowder. He is survived by his sons, Danny Gilliam-Veach and husband Alan Gilliam-Veach, Kent Gilliam and husband Francisco Izaguirre, and Wade Gilliam and wife Kim Gilliam; grandchildren, Ramsie Grimm, Reanna Foster, Tabitha Bartow, Darion Veach and Aaron Veach and 2 great-grandchildren.
