There will be a family visitation on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 5-7 pm at Brownfield Funeral Home.
Sue was born on April 21, 1937 to Henry and Nillie (Hounshell) Decker in Brownfield. Sue met Billy Earl Elrod in Brownfield High School, where they were both a part of the vocational program. Earl also worked at Fenton’s Shoe Store and Sue was a great lover of shoes. They fell in love and were married on August 19, 1955 in Lovington, NM. They raised their two daughters, Connie and Debra in Brownfield and in 1971, Sue opened E&S Answering Service which she operated until her retirement in 2008.
Sue was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and her family is comforted knowing she is in the arms of her beloved Lord and Savior. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Brownfield Fire Department Auxiliary and served as Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls. The Lord gave her a fabulous talent for sewing and her family imagines she is now sewing gowns for heaven’s angels. She deeply loved her family, the grandkids and great grandkids will greatly miss their “Mema.”
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Earl Elrod and a sister, Mona Vee McKee.
Sue is survived by two daughters, Connie Bagley and husband Mike of O’Donnell and Debra Crutcher and husband Terry of Brownfield; a sister, Myrna Britton of Lawton, OK; 2 granddaughters, Brandy Tidwell and husband Billy of Crosbyton and Mandy Pruner and husband Matt of Lubbock; 2 great grandsons, Hunter and Jaxen Tidwell of Crosbyton; and a great granddaughter, Evelynn Pruner of Lubbock.
The family suggests memorials to Calvary Baptist Church of Brownfield, First Baptist Church of O’Donnell or a charity of one’s choice.
