Wes Woodard

July 10, 2004 — May 1, 2023

Henry Wesley "Wes" Woodard was born in Brownfield, Texas, on July 10, 2004, to Jody and Kathryn Woodard, and was taken from this life on May 1, 2023.  While some would say it was too soon, in God's eyes Wes was with us exactly the right amount of time.

Wes and his parents moved to the Meadow area when he was in pre-K. This was where he met 13 other pre-K students who would remain his classmates for the next 12 years.  He was within three weeks of graduating with 24 other Broncos in the Class of 2023.  If you asked Wes what he enjoyed, his answer was always, "What season is it?"  He excelled in basketball, track, cross-country, football, FFA, stock shows, UIL persuasive speaking, one-act plays, robotics, NHS, and making friends.

However, more important to him than all the medals, banners, and belt buckles was his love of people of all ages.  While in high school, Wes served as a counselor at the South Plains Church of Christ-sponsored Camp Evergreen, where he worked with younger elementary kids, teaching them how to grow closer to God. It was here that he discovered his passion for mentoring kids.  His long-term plan after college was to become a high school basketball coach, which would leave his summers free for Church Camps, Sports Camps, and missions trips.

During his last few days here, Wes competed in four events in a regional track meet.  An hour later, he attended a prom in Lubbock, and then taught 3rd graders in Sunday School the next morning. He was looking forward to graduation, taking his first mission trip to Rio de Janeiro this summer, and attending Texas Tech University in the Fall.

Wes is survived by his Dad, Mom, and his best friend, stock show partner, and teammate, his younger brother Kyle. He is also survived by his grandparents, Henry McCulloch, Jr. and Judy Woodard, as well as many aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles, and numerous cousins across Texas and Maine.  Another group of important people in his life were his church family at both the Brownfield and South Plains Churches of Christ, his sports teammates, his school classmates, the "Brotherhood of Athletes" from surrounding schools, and all the friends he had made throughout West Texas.

Wes joins Barbara "Grandma" McCulloch and Jimmy Wesley "Grandy" Woodard in Heaven.  He will be missed but not forgotten - "Till We Meet Again!"  Philippians 4:13

Memorial donations can be made to the Wes Woodard Memorial Scholarship Fund established at Meadow ISD, the White River Youth Camp, or the South Plains Church of Christ Mission Trip Fund.
