William "Pete" Tarlton, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away in Lubbock, TX on June 18, 2024. He was born on February 13, 1945, in Okmulgee, OK, to Thomas and Alma Tarlton.

Pete Tarlton leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. After growing up in Lubbock, he served his country honorably in the Navy for 20 years. Following his military service, Pete worked for the City of Paris, TX, before dedicating over two decades to Texas Tech University, where he eventually retired.

Pete found solace in the great outdoors, where hunting and fishing were not just hobbies but cherished escapes into nature's embrace. Sundays were reserved for quiet contemplation over challenging crosswords, always accompanied by the fragrant curl of a good cigar. Pete could fix anything with his capable hands, reflecting his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

He is survived by his four children: Elizabeth "Beth" and her husband Jeff Olson of Ozark, AL, Katherine "Kathy" Gebert of Lubbock, George Tarlton of Liberty Hill, TX, and Jeff and his wife Amanda Tarlton of Lubbock. Pete was Grandfather to his ten grandchildren: Dianne Burnett of Lubbock, Kurtis Olson, of Oklahoma City, OK, Tamara Coleman of Sherman, TX, Jaclyn Saxton of Great Falls, MT, Barbara Olson of Ozark, AL, Brenna and Gabrielle Tarlton of Victoria, TX and Ethan Saldivar and Emery Rocha of Lubbock, and Kala Tarlton of Lubbock. His eight great-grandchildren, Jacob, Adrianne, Riley, Tyler, Hadley, Merrytt, Charlotte, and Jon, brought immense joy to his life.

Pete is also survived by his special friend, Susan Haney of Lubbock, and siblings Dr. Faye Leverette of Miami, FL, and Guy Tarlton of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Collins.

Pete's family express profound gratitude to Beyond Faith Hospice for their compassionate care during Pete's final days, providing comfort and support.

Memorial donations in Pete's name can be made to Texas South Plains Honor Flight, continuing to honor those who served our country, a cause that was dear to Pete's heart.
